      He helped his father operate a general store, which was the beginni ng of a successful business career and led him to participate in the estab lishment of the Toledo Memorial Park and Cemetery in Sylvania. He serv ed as the cemetery's first managing trustee and remained active in Trilby 's civic affairs until ill health forced retirement to Florida in 1943.
