      He was a Farmer. He served in the military in the Civil War from 1862-186 5. He had Provost Duty in Company FL, 128th Regiment of the Ohio Infant ry Union Army; stationed in Toledo, OH. In 1898, while constructing an i ce house in Toledo, a wall fell on him, fracturing his leg and hip. He w as crippled for the remainder of his life.
