Description: His death was caused by part of his clothing getting caug ht in a sawmill fly wheel gear on a cold windy morning.
He was a Stationary Engineer. Bertrand left home as a young man and work ed his way across the states doing odd jobs. Sometimes he slept in hay st acks and one morning he awoke with his hair frozen to the ground. He and h is wife Lizzie came to Buckley, WA from Sand Point, ID in 1907. He had bui lt his own violin and taught himself to play and was working on another vi olin at the time of his death.

      A Poem written by Bertrand:
(To Lizzie) If You Should Paint A Picture
If you should paint a picture dear a picture grand and 1. With beautif ul golden clouds above and skies of heavenly blue.

A castle by the wooded hill a winding path where roses grow. A silvery br ook from the wildwood deep and the valley far below.

Would I be strolling by your side in the picture grand and gay. Wou ld I be mixed in the artists paint as you painted day to day.

In the magic lights and shadows that softly come and go. Will you dip yo ur brush in the rainbow for the sunsets after glow.

As the twilight shadows darken and you kneel to breath a prayer. Wi ll I be kneeling by your side in this most sacred hour?

      -Bertrand Nelson Pelton (1865-1920)
