  [combined.ged] He started working in 1926 teaching nine grades in a one room school hou se in Berrien County, MI. In 1929 he built and operated a general sto re in the country, 7 miles south of Watervliet, MI on highway M-140 and Na pier Ave. That corner became known as Pelton's Corners for the 25 yea rs he operated the store. Besides selling the normal items of a country s tore, he became well known in the area for selling large ice cream cone s. The dips of ice cream were generally twice the size sold by other stor es and cost 5 cents a dip. People would come from towns 12 to 15 miles aw ay to get the ice cream.
