He served at Owens River and Visal ia during the Indian troubles. he was a Corporal of Captain Hemen Noble 's company (E), Second Regiment of Calvary California Volunteers, was enro lled on March 29, 1864 to serve 3 years or during the war, was discharg ed from the service of the US on June 2, 1866 at San Francisco, CA, by rea son of special order No. 60, Headquarters Department of California, San Fr ancisco March 28, 1866. Eli was working with his uncle and learni ng to be a tanner and currying leather and then went to Woburn, MA and th en NY and then to CA and the Nevada County mines.
