The family of Eunice Sturges Pelton was prominent in Fairfield, CT. The em igrant ancestor, John Sturges, came to CT in 1660. Eunice's great grandfa ther, Set, suffered depredations at the hands of the British during the Re volution. Daughters of the American Revolution classified him as a patri ot and direct relationship to him qualifies one for membership in that org anization. Set was married to Mary Burr, first cousin to Aaron Burr who w as Vice President under Thomas Jefferson.

While Erma was preganant in July or August of 1933 with twins, one of t he fetus' died. Her doctor deemed it best to not induce labor, feeling th at perhaps she would be able to carry the other child to term. On Novemb er 20th she had both babies. The live child lived only a short while a nd the dead fetus had cased her to get gangrene of the uterus, from whi ch she died.

Spent two more years on a farm, then followed by one year of boati ng on the Hudson River, came to the town of Winfield, Sauk, WI in Dec 185 0, walking overland from Milwaukee to his father farm, where he spent t he next two years. Then spent two years in Yellow River Pinery, then t wo years breaking land and threshing.

William served in the military War of the Great Rebellion, about 1862-186 5. Captain Pelton, in response to the call for 75,000 men, marched to t he war of the Great Rebellion, as Captain of Company B, 1st regime nt of VT volunteer infantry; ordered out April 28, 1861; mustered into t he United States service, on May 2, and left for the front, passing throu gh New York City, May 4th, on the way to Fortress Monroe, which they reach ed just in time to save it from the rebels. The regiment fought at Big Bet hel and occupied Newport News, where Capt. Pelton was the first to lan d. In the James River Campaign he was invalided by dumb ague, and not bei ng able to reenlist at the end of the three month term he was select ed by Lieutenant Col. P.F. Washburn (afterward governor of Vermont), who h ad been appointed adjutant-general of the state, to assist in raising a nd organizing all troops required to fill the quota of the State in futu re calls"
