    He was a Farmer and a Joiner. Stephen served in the military 1812-181 5. He may have been called to serve in the Canadian Militia, deserted a nd fled to the US where his loyalties lay and served with the American Arm y.
    At 16 years of age, in 1809, he left Grand Isle and went into Canada, b ut in 1812 returned to the US, entered the American Army and served to t he end of the war. Then went to Batavia, NY, married there and stayed fi ve years; thence to the township of North East, Erie, PA, until 1833; then ce to Innerskip, Oxford, ON, where he lived; in 1879. In 1876 he had 45 gr andchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
