    He resided in La Grange, OH 1878. He was a Farmer. J. M. Pelton stat es on page 123 of the 1892 Pelton's in America book " Mr. Pelton and fami ly removed to OH in 1832. They settled on a farm in the woods, two mil es east of the center of Litchfield Township, Median County. They were ac companied by five other families, making on their arrival a total of twen ty families in the township. In the previous spring each adult male inhab itant had held an office. On arriving they found their money reduced to f ifty cents, with a letter awaiting them at the post office, on which the p ostage was twenty-five cents. Their first two or three years there were ye ars of privation and unremitting toil, it being difficult at first to g et food enough for the family. During the first fall of their pioneer lif e, while the men were clearing the land, the women of the family gather ed one hundred fifty bushels of hickory nuts, which brought fifty cents p er bushel. They had to go thirty miles to mill and seven to the nearest p lace for trade. At Litchfield Center there was but one little log hous e, used also for a post office. Their first fourth of July in OH was cele brated by the assembling of the inhabitants of Litchfield early in the mor ning and their building a meeting house in the style of those days, it be ing also used a school house. They enjoyed their Fourth immensely. Wh en the Baptist Church was organized, the names of Mr. and Mrs. Pelton we re enrolled among its thirteen members."
