    He was a Cabinetmaker. He resided in Hempstead, Long Island, NY before 17 58. He moved to New York City in 1758.
    He exported to the West Indies. About 1772 he sailed for that destinati on with products of his shop, but, as alleged by the captain of the vesse l, was swept over board and lost. His family were of the opinion th at he was thrown overboard. His property on board was not recovered, alth ough two sons, Benjamin and Daniel, were sent to look after it, returnin g, after an absence of two years, having, in the meantime, been shipwreck ed and carred to Spain. they two, and a negro only, were saved upon a des ert island, where they stayed till taken off by a passing vessel. It w as afterward learned from the crew that the captain refused to change h is course to save Mr. Pelton, but that he carried his vessel into West Ind ai port, sold the cargo and changed his crew; thence sailed to South Ameri ca and sold his ship. "Philip's cause of death may have been murder at sea ."

    He was born at Mount Hope Farm. By about 1723 Benjamin and Keziah mov ed to Huntington, Massau, NY and later to Hopewell. They joined the Fir st Church in Huntington on 29 Sep 1742 but had moved to Hopewell by Mar 17 50 when Benjamin was listed as an Overseer of the Highways.
